WESTERN PUBLISHES FY 2011 FINANCIAL STATEMENTS

LAKEWOOD, Colo. — Western Area Power Administration’s Fiscal Year 2011 Annual Report is now available online at http://ww2.wapa.gov/sites/western/newsroom/Documents/pdf/annrep11.pdf. The publication documents Western’s accomplishments as well as its 2011 financial statements.

This year’s theme, “Designed to Serve,” demonstrates how Western employees are dedicated to delivering clean, reliable, cost-based energy to customers, who in turn, keep the lights on for millions of Americans with low-cost, reliable power.

Some key facts for Western in 2011:

• We marketed more than 42.4 billion kilowatt-hours, which is more than 5 billion kWhs more that we marketed in 2010.
• Good hydrology meant Western only used 36 percent of its purchase power and wheeling authority.
• The agency saw the highest coincident peak load in more than a decade at 7,027 megawatts of power to meet consumers’ needs July 19, 2011.
• Western added about 30 miles of transmission lines.
• Our balancing authorities offered intra-hour scheduling to allow more flexibility for renewable generation.
• The Transmission Infrastructure Program used Western’s borrowing authority to commit funds to two additional projects in 2011: the TransWest Express and Electrical District No. 5 – Palo Verde Hub transmission projects.

“Our Fiscal Year 2011 Annual Report highlights one of the tenets that make us particularly proud and equally humble – we are designed to serve,” said Administrator Tim Meeks in the opening letter.
